Mujeres dominantes para hombres alterados
"Dominant Women for Altered Men" was commissioned in 2003 by double bass player Alejandra Santa Cruz to be premiered during the International Festival of New Music organized by the University of Chile.
The idea behind this work is to depict the typical way in which relationships between men and women develop: each one trying to impose his/her own way of thinking on the other. The double bass represents a woman, while the vibraphone represents a man. During the course of the piece, each one tries to establish his/her own tonic using ostinatos and the dominant altered scale. At the end however, both manage to understand one another and live together in harmony.
